The Vickers VC.1 was built to an Air Ministry specification for
a medium-short haul passenger airliner and first flew in 1945.
It used the wing and undercarriage of the Wellington bomber
mated to a new fuselage.
163 examples were built including 12 for the RAF which used
three examples for the King's Flight. A modified version known
as the Valleta was produced specifically for the RAF as a
transport and navigation trainer, 261 of these being built.
One example was fitted with two Rolls-Royce Nene jet engines
and when flown in 1948 was the first British pure jet transport
aircraft. This prototype was later converted back to standard
configuration.
The final variant was the Varsity, a navigation trainer for the
RAF with tricycle undercarriage, 161 of which were built between
1951 and 1954, and which remained in service for another twenty
odd years.
This CD contains flight manuals for the civil and military
