The Vampire was the second British jet powered fighter and first
flew in September 1943, but length of development meant it did
not see service in that conflict.Designed for simplicity the aircraft used the molded plywood
construction pioneered by the Mosquito. Designed as a fighter
it was mainly used for ground attack in RAF service. A two-seat
cabin seating side-by-side was used for the Training role and for
the night-fighter role.
At its peak, 19 RAF squadrons flew the Vampire. Over 3,400 were
built in England and over 1,100 were assembled under licence in
various countries overseas. In all at least 31 air arms flew the
aircraft at some time.
We offer three CD's for various marks of the De Havilland
Vampire. Each CD contains three or more flight manuals (usually
titled Pilot's Notes) for the Vampire. Each CD has been scanned
from the original flight manuals and retains any colour pages.
