Sikorsky Aviation started in the US in 1925 after moving from the
USSR. The S-38 amphibian aircraft, which first flew in 1928, was
the first widely produced aircraft. Known as the "Explorers Air
Yacht", a total of 101 were built.
Sikorsky produced several other successful flying boat designs,
and in 1935 entered a contest for a US Navy patrol aircraft. The
XPBS-1 lost out to what became the Consolidated PBY, but
Sikorsky produced a civil long-range transport flying boat
from the design designated the VS-44A.
With WW2 looming, only four examples were built, but these
performed valuable long range transport duties through the
war.
This CD contains the flight manual for the S-38 and VS-44A, plus
a brochure for the S-38, has been scanned from the original
manuals and retains any colour pages.
