The H-3 and the H-53 are two of the larger members of the
Sikorsky family of helicopters. The H-3 first flew in 1959 (as the YHSS-2), designed as a
combined hunter-killer anti-submarine helicopter. It has
subsequently been developed for a number of utility roles,
including Presidential transport, and was made famous in
the Vietnam war as the "Jolly Green Giant" rescuing
downed pilots. It has been produced under licence in
Canada, Japan, Italy and England. The H-53 first flew in 1964 and is a larger helicopter again,
combining the dynamic components of the S-64 Skycrane
with a new watertight hull. In use with several US forces
and exported to several countries, the H-53 series is
utilised in the long-range infiltration, rescue, utility, mine
-sweeping and heavy-lift roles. This CD contains four flight manuals for these larger
Sikorsky military helicopters.
