BELL P-39 AIRACOBRA
Flight Manual for the Bell P-39 Airacobra

The P-39 was an unusual configuration with the engine mounted
amidships. The reason for this was to allow room for the armament
in the nose, the aircraft being largely designed around the 37mm
T9 cannon
. It also allowed a very streamlined nose. The major
disadvantage however was that it did not allow the fitting of a
turbo-supercharger. This limited the aircrafts operational effectiveness
to altitudes below 12,000 ft.

The aircraft first flew in 1938 and was one of the few US fighters
in service in any number at the start of WW2. Over 9,500 were
built, about 5,000 of which were supplied to the Soviet Air Force
where they were used with great success.

This CD contains two USAAF flight manuals for various versions of
the Bell P-39 Airacobra, plus two other smaller manuals for the
aircraft.  The CD has
been scanned from the original flight manuals
and retains
any colour pages.
