NAVAL ATTACK &
TORPEDO AIRCRAFT
CD No 1
This CD contains manuals on three US Naval attack/torpedo
aircraft.
![]()
The Curtiss SBC-4 was the last military biplane
procured by the US Navy. The first variant the SBC-3
entered service in 1938, followed by the SBC-4 in
1939.
![]()
The Vought SBU series was designed in 1935 and was a
significant improvement over previous scout aircraft.
However as the US Navy moved from biplanes to
monoplanes the aircraft rapidly became obsolete and
were relegated to training roles.
![]()
The Vought SB2U-3 was designed to a 1934 US Navy
specification, (part of which still called for a biplane). Approx
170 examples of three variants were built for US Navy
service, and another 74 for export to France and England.
Largely obsolete at the start of WW2 the aircraft was
withdrawn to training units by 1943.
The CD has been scanned from the original flight manuals
and retains any colour pages.

CD no 2
This CD contains manuals on two US Naval attack/torpedo
aircraft, neither of which entered active service.
![]()
The Douglas BTD-1 was designed as a replacement for the
Douglas SBD Dauntless and first flew in 1943. It was the
first US Navy aircraft to feature a tricycle undercarriage.
With the development of the AD Skyraider proceding,
production was cancelled at WW2s end with only 28
examples having been built, none of which saw active
service.
![]()
The Consolidated TBY-2 Seawolf was originally developed
by Vought Aircraft as a replacement for the Douglas TBD.
In competition with the Grumman TBF Avenger it proved
superior in many areas. Consolidated Aircraft were awarded
a production contract but numerous problems with the
aircraft meant only 180 examples were produced and none
saw active service.
