PROVOST AND JET
PROVOST

The Percival P.56 Provost was an ab initio trainer for the RAF.
It was a low-wing, monoplane with a fixed undercarriage and
side-by-side seating. Designed to an Air Ministry specification
for a basic trainer to replace the Percival Prentice, the prototype
first flew on 24 February 1950.
The Provost entered service with the RAF in 1953. It had more
than twice the power of its predecessor, the Prentice, with higher
performance and manoeuvrability. Production ended in 1956
when 461 aircraft had been completed.
The aircraft served with the RAF until the early 1960s, when it was
replaced by the Jet Provost. The Jet Provost was developed from the Provost in response to
an RAF requirement for a new dedicated all-through jet training
aircraft and first flew in 1954.
The aircraft was steadily developed with increasing engine power,
weapons capability and pressurisation. A total of 753 were built,
with a number of variants exported.
An armed version of the final T5 variant was marketed as the
Strikemaster light strike aircraft and exported to a number of
countries.
We offer two CD's for the Provost and Jet Provost, covering most
models of the two aircraft. Each CD has been scanned from the
original flight manuals and retains any colour pages.
