HAWKER HUNTER
Flight Manual for the Hawker Hunter

The versatile and extremely elegant Hawker Hunter jet was
originally designed as an air superiority fighter, but was easily
adapted for air-to-ground attack and reconnaissance roles.

It was developed progressively from the Hawker Sea Hawk by
first installing swept wings (P.1052), then a straight-through tailpipe
(P.1081), and finally an axial flow jet engine. It was the first swept
wing, indigenous British built fighter, with the first prototype
taking to the air in 1951. A special one-off version called the F.3
held the world speed record for a brief period in 1953.

With its clean lines, excellent handling and outstanding load
carrying capacity, the Hunter was possibly the best transonic
jet fighter and ground-support aircraft of its kind. It was built
in greater numbers than any other British aircraft of the post-war
era.

The Hunter formed the backbone of the Royal Air Force’s jet fighter
squadron between 1954 and 1961, when it was replaced by the
Lightning. Transferred to ground attack and reconnaissance roles
it remained in frontline service until the early seventies, only being
finally withdrawn from active British service in 1995.

Nearly two thousand Hunters of all types were built for various air
forces - including those of Belgium, Chile, Denmark, Holland, India,
Sweden and Switzerland.

We offer three CD's for the Hawker Hunter. Each CD contains three
or four pilot's flight manuals (titled Pilot's Notes) for the
Hunter.  Each
CD has been scanned from the original
flight manuals and retains any
colour pages.
