CD No 1 - WACO CG-4A
![]()
The Waco CG-4 first flew in 1942 and was selected to be the
standard USAAF assault glider.
The CG-4A was built with steel tubing and wood, and covered
with fabric. It could carry 15 fully equipped troops, or a jeep,
or a 75mm howitzer and its crew. The nose of the glider could
be swung up for loading and unloading. There were also doors
in the sides of the fuselage. An interesting fact is that when
carrying a jeep or other large item, a sturdy cable connected the
cargo to the hinged nose. If the cargo shifted on landing, the
cable would pull the nose (and the pilots) up and out of the way
so the cargo didn’t crush them.
This CD contains two flight manuals and the maintenance manual
for the Waco CG-4A military transport glider. This CD has been
scanned from the original flight manuals and retains any colour
pages..

This CD contains four flight manuals on four military glider aircraft.
Three are from the WW2 era, and one is a modern motor-glider
which was used at the USAF academy.
The General Aircraft Hamilcar was designed to transport the
heavy equipment required for advance assault forces. It could
transport a light tank such as the Locust, or two Bren-carriers.
The Laister-Kauffman TG-4 was a standard recreational soaring
glider pressed into service for military training. However it was
found to be too agile and gained height more quickly than the
gliders that would be flown in combat and it was superseded
by the TG-5 and TG-6.
The Aeronca TG-5 training glider was produced from the O-58
(later designated L-3) liaison aircraft by replacing the engine
with a new front fuselage and cockpit. 250 were built.
The Schweizer TG-7 was developed in 1984 from the 2-37
motor-glider specifically for use at the USAF Academy at
Colorado Springs.
This CD has been scanned from the original flight manuals and
retains any colour pages.

This CD contains four flight manuals on four military glider aircraft.
All are from the WW2 era.
The Airspeed Horsa assault glider was used in many WWII airborne
attacks, including the landing on Sicily and Normandy. The Horsa
was a wooden high-wing aircraft, that could carry as many as 30
troops, or a jeep or a 6lb gun. The Horsa was sturdy and
manoeuvrable, and over 3600 were built.
The Airspeed Hotspur was the first transport glider produced by
the Allies during World War II. It carried two pilots, one behind the
other, and seven troops. Doors allowed passengers to enter and
exit on both sides. The pilots boarded by way of hinged plexiglass
canopy. Hotspurs were used extensively for training by England's
Glider Pilot Regiment, but none were ever used in combat.
The Taylorcraft TG-6 was a light training glider based on the L-2
series Grasshopper. The conversion involved a new front fuselage
with a third seat for the instructor, and a simplified undercarriage,
with a skid under the nose; wing spoilers were fitted and the fin
area increased. A production batch of 250 was built for the Army.
The Laister-Kauffman CG-10 was a very large 42 seat troop/cargo
glider with a 105' wingspan. 1,000 examples were envisaged for
the projected invasion of Japan, but the surrender of Japan
occurred before production fully got underway and the order was
cancelled. Less than 10 were actually produced, and not all were
completed. This CD has been scanned from the original flight manuals and
retains any colour pages..

2. USAAF Pilot's Handbook for the CG-10A glider, T.O. 09-15AB-1
dated 24-9-45, approx 26 pages.3. USAAF Pilot's Flight Operating Instructions for the TG-6 glider,
T.O. 09-35AA-1 dated 5-8-43, approx 15 pages.4. RAF Pilot's Notes for the Airspeed Horsa I glider, AP 2097A & B-PN,
