De HAVILLAND CANADA
DHC-5 BUFFALO
![]()
The DHC-5 Buffalo is a specialized turbo-prop cargo aircraft
with STOL capability, first flown in 1961. It was developed
from the earlier piston powered DHC-4 Caribou.
The aircraft was developed to a US Army requirement, but
development was protracted and a pre-production batch of
four aircraft was not delivered until 1965.
The aircraft won a United States Army order but political
wrangling in the US caused this to be cancelled. De Havilland
tried to market a civil version named the Transporter but the
entire production went to military operators.
A total of 126 aircraft were produced, in two production batches
between 1965 - 1972, and 1974 - 1986. The original US Army
aircraft were transferred to the USAF, and then to NASA where
three were converted to various research configurations.
This CD contains two flight manuals for military variants of the
Buffalo, plus two nice original company brochures. This CD has
been copied from the original flight manuals and retains any
colour pages.
