De HAVILLAND DH89
DRAGON RAPIDE
![]()
The De Havilland DH89 was the most successful of the
1930's De Havilland biplane short-haul airliners. Designed
as a faster and more comfortable successor to the DH84
Dragon, it utilised many features of the four-engined DH86
Express aircraft, including tapered wings, streamlined
fairings and the Gypsy Six engine.
Initially known as the Dragon Six, it was subsequently
renamed the Dragon Rapide and sometimes known just
as the Rapide.
The prototype first flew in 1934 and 205 examples had
been built for customers worldwide by the start of WW2 in
1939. Civil aircraft were impressed into RAF service as the
Dominie for passenger duties and navigation training. 500
more were built specifically for military purposes.
The aircraft proved very durable despite its simple plywood
construction and many wartime survivors re-entered civil
service. Several examples remain airworthy today. This CD contains civil and military manuals for the DH89.
The CD has been scanned from the original flight manuals
and retains any colour pages.
