SUD AVIATION CARAVELLE
The Sud Aviation SE210 Caravelle was an all-French short
/Medium range jetliner, generally considered to be the first
successful jet airliner. Although the DH Comet had flown in
1949 the subsequent series of accidents with that aircraft
led to its temporary withdrawal from service, and the other
claimant, the Avro Jetliner
was cancelled.
The aircraft, with its distinctive triangular shaped windows,
first flew in 1955 and entered service in 1959. It was in
production until 1972 by which time 282 examples had
been built.
Several variants were produced over its production run
as the increasing power of the available engines allowed
for higher take-off weights. Its engine placement on the
rear fuselage set a trend that was used for many other
airliners, and it was the first airliner to be equipped with
thrust reversers and wing spoilers.
This CD contains
two flight manuals for the Sud Aviation
Caravelle and two manufacturers brochures. The CD has
been scanned from the original flight manuals and retains
any colour pages.

1. SAS Airlines Flight Manual for the Caravelle III (RR Avon
powered). Two volumes, one covering the technical description
with 402 pages, and the second covering operating information
with 519 pages, revised to March 1970.
2. Belgian World Airlines Flight Manual for the Caravelle VI
(RR Avon powered). Two volumes, one covering the technical
description with 611 pages, and the second covering operating
information with 576 pages, dated mid 1960's.
3. Manufacturers colour brochure titled "Caravelle - Production"
giving details of the manufacturing methods and facilities for
the Caravelle, dated 1963 with 23 pages.
4. Manufacturers colour brochure titled "Caravelle - Horizon"
giving details of the JT8D powered version of the Caravelle
with 21 pages.
