SUPERFORTRESS
The B-29 was designed
to a specification issued in 1940 for a
very long range
trans-oceanic bomber and first flew in 1942. It
was much more
advanced than the B-17 being fully pressurised
with remotely
operated gun turrets. In spite of its complexity,
size and cost,
over 4,000 were built , remaining in operational
service until
well past the Korean War.
It is most well known
as the aircraft which dropped the two
atomic bombs at the end of WW2. A heavier and more powerful
version was built as the B-50.

the B-29 aircraft.
CD No 1
This CD contains
three USAAF flight manuals for the Boeing
B-29 plus an
interesting USAAF training publication. This CD has
been copied from the original flight manuals and retains any
colour pages.
This CD contains:
1. USAAF Pilot's Flight
Operating Instructions for the B-29,
AN 01-20EJ-1 dated 20-8-43, approx 128 pages. Probably
one of the first USAAF flight manuals for the B-29.
2. USAAF Airplane Commanders
Training Manual for the B-29,
AAF Manual 51-126-6 dated December 1945, approx 180
pages. This is the last edition of this manual, superseding
the Brown covered edition, which itself superseded the
original grey covered manual.
3. USAF Flight Handbook
for the YB-29J, AN 01-20EJAC-1
dated 15-12-50 with approx 124 pages.
4. USAAF training publication
titled "How not to Fly the B-29",
Volume One No 2, containing five case studies of B-29
accidents, undated with approx 12 pages.
